Division of Epidemiological Research for Chemical Disorders

National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, Japan

On May 31, 2022, the " Order for Partial Amendment of Regulations on Labor Safety and Health" was promulgated, directing that chemical substance management in Japan will shift from regulations on individual and specific chemicals to those based on autonomous management. Based on this, " Division of Epidemiological Research for Chemical Disorders" will contribute to preventive measures for occupational accidents caused by exposure to chemical substances in industrial workplaces and to implement effective health management, focusing on the following research activities: research on health management measures, measures to ensure health, investigation of late-onset diseases caused by exposure to chemicals, and epidemiological study of new health disorders related to exposure to chemicals.

  • Research on health management measures
We aim to develop measures to ensure health to prevent occupational accidents caused by chemical exposure in industrial workplaces.

  • Research on measures to ensure health
We focus on developing measures to ensure health based on the results of special health check examinations, other health information, and epidemiological analysis of chemical exposure information.

  • Investigation of late-onset diseases caused by chemical exposure
We contribute to the prevention of occupational accidents by analyzing data related to late-onset diseases such as cancer and chemical exposure.

  • Epidemiological study of new health disorders related to chemical exposure
We examine the epidemiological relationship between possible new health disorders and chemical exposure
